Writes concerning the recent loss of a gold medal bearing Clay's likeness that had been presented to him by the Clay Association of New York City. Lynch had taken the medal to Daniel Ullmann, chairman of the association, for some "slight improvements," when it was taken from her carriage. Assures Lynch that she is not to blame, and is confident that history will remember that he received the medal, even if he no longer has it. Another copy of the medal was soon cast, and in 1867 the stolen original was found in Switzerland.

General Taylor, commander of the Army of the South during this period in the second Seminole War, sent this cover letter with enclosed reports (not included) to Major General Jones, adjutant general of the Army in Washington, D.C. One report attested to the bravery of Captain Rains when attacked by Seminoles near Fort King in April, 1840. The other concerned the murder of woman and two children by Seminoles. Written on White House stationery a little over a month after John Dean's Watergate testimony. Also includes three identical cards with "The President" printed on each.
