Written in a secretarial hand.

Refers him to his article titled "Bull Run" and published in the Century. Remarks, "Most of us wore our old U.S. Uniforms at the Battle [of Bull Run] with our state buttons instead of the old ones." Informs that he was the first brigadier general appointed in the Provisional Army of the Confederacy, and was the 5th full General appointed after the Battle of Manassas (Bull Run) on July 21, 1861.

Jenney," an engineer in the 15th Army Corps, on 16 October 1863. Jenney was then on the staff of General William T. Sherman.

Altered for use in the 1864 election. The original banner had Hannibal Hamlin's name as the vice-presidential candidate but in 1864, Hamlin's name was cut out and Johnson's added. Attached to original stick. Measurements include the stick. The stick measures 49.5 cm long by 1.5 cm wide.
