Questions how Turner believes she can legally withhold the deed from Trench being that John Pendleton, Jonathan Pendleton, and himself witnessed the agreement she made with Ulmer concerning Turner's deed. Noted as a copy on the docket. Letter is not signed but appears to be in Knox's handwriting. Discusses the sum Joseph Jones and [Benjamin?] Bartlett received for the loss of their barns (the barns were burnt down by the settlers). Also mentions how he had hoped to see Ulmer before his departure from Boston, Massachusetts. A portion of the bottom right corner of the letter is missing causing minor text loss and the loss of Knox's signature.

Informs Knox that a "poor unfortunate man" named John Thomas has asked the Amity Lodge of the FreeMasons; to recommend him for an appointment as lighthouse-keeper for the new lighthouse at Whitehead Island. The undersigned are members of a committee charged with asking Knox to recommend Mr. Thomas to Knox's good friend General [Benjamin] Lincoln. The document also lists Mr. Thomas's qualifications.

Unsigned, but handwriting suggests the author is Henry Knox. Writes that Tudor's son (likely Frederic) has been urging Knox to repay the note he owes the Tudors. Explains the difficult financial circumstances under which he is suffering, leading him to be unable to pay it within six months, as Frederic asked. Believes he will be able to repay it in the next year. Asks for Tudor's indulgence, based on their friendship, to allow him to renew the note for eighteen months. Jonathan Trumbull Jr. communicates a request from George Washington asking Knox to send a copy of the information Washington is to incorporate into a letter to Governor of Virginia Thomas Nelson. Washington also wants a list of the cannons Knox proposed be sold to reimburse William Ross. Possibly concerns indemnification for impressed supplies needed for the siege of Yorktown. Washington recently wrote a letter to the Governor of Maryland under similar circumstances (see GLC02437.01273). Trumbull was Washington's military secretary. Knox's reply appears in GLC02437.01286.
