A six-page essay, in which the author, J.J. Osuna, describes his move from Puerto Rico to the U.S. to attend the Carlisle Indian School in 1901. He writes about how sad he was to leave his mother, about the journey over, and about the school itself. He dislikes the school and, as a Puerto Rican of Spanish descent, he feels out of place among Native Americans, so after one year he leaves to attend the Bloomsburg Normal School. In 1905, however, the Carlisle Indian School allows him to graduate with his class.

He writes that he knows she has said that she doesn't want any babies, so he won't talk about it anymore. Augsberger asks Ardena if she still wants to marry him when he returns, since he thinks she doesn't love him anymore. He asks Ardena to wait for him.
