Sylvia comments on fact that the letter is in pencil, has nothing else to write with at her mother's. Wanted to get to bed early, but her parents had to go to see Aunt Fanny who is very ill and she had to stay at her parents' and watch (her nephew) David. She tells a story about a sixty year old woman who needs funds for an operation and yet is frightened to go through with it.

She and a co-worker, Ruth, went to the Brooklyn Paramount and saw Preston Sturges' "The Miracle of Morgan's Creek." She will be going to the Draft Board again tonight, has a very difficult interview to conduct.

She hopes she can get her "B" gasoline ration status back because of her connection with the Draft Board. Reports that most people are optimistic there will be an early victory. Can't understand why he is not receiving the PM subscription she has sent him.

Sylvia got up and had french toast, and never shoveled the walk.; a kid did it. The car is marooned and she won't be able to get it out. She is meeting friends at the Chesapeake restaurant at Madison and 34th Street [Manhattan] for dinner. Discusses different restaurants they had eaten in, and various friends.

Sylvia reports that her parents have gone out and she is watching [her nephew] David. After dinner last night, went to the theater, got out at 11:15PM and tried to get a cab in the freezing weather. Later they went to her friend Rose's house. Rose's husband wants her to leave her $65.00 job and her home and join him in Fort Lewis and live in a rooming house and work in a Shipyard. The next day she went over to a friend's (Bess) and met a doctor, a Captain, stationed at Camp Kilmer [New Jersey], he had just come in from England. She has just heard on the news that London has been bombed again.

Sylvia says that while she is convinced that Moe has confidence in her judgment in regard to the use of the car; she has always felt that the car and its use must be subject to his okay. Says she still might be able to get a "B" gasoline ration because of her Draft Board work. Reports on friends. She found out that Moe did not receive her package that was filled with rolls of film for him. She knows that the package wasn't against regulations but someone must have opened it and took the film, which was very hard to get.

Sylvia Reports on family. She went to the Selective Service Board. Talked about the draftees they have seen and the hard job that the Board has had and the toll it's taken on their health. Had a series of "screwballs" in Intake at work. One 82 year old man had an idea for ending the war in three months. Take Plaster of Paris up in a plane, drop it on the Germans and "Japs," pour water on them and they will all turn to stone.

Had to interview someone at work, between the malcontents who are all that is left at work [seeking aid from the NYC Welfare Department] and the psychotics at the draft board "she is really getting it."

Sylvia stopped at Bess' house on her way home from Moe's Mom's. Draws pictures of how she went to work and served breakfast at the canteen for Allied War Relief. Shows her working in Intake. Then goes to his mother's for dinner, stops at Bess M's house and then home. Left his parents the picture he had sent her of himself. Received his letters from London. Hopes he didn't find the bombing of London too terrible, knows he can't mention it in his letters.

The leaflets were never given to her; and it was too cold to go out and distribute them anyway.
