Knox talks about his cattle and lots of land, as well as his money troubles which make it difficult for him to pay his bills. He can only send Rynier ten dollars.

Knox directs Rynier to survey the Townships of Prospect, Frankfort, Hampden, and Bangor. Knox wants to know how many settlers are there. Knox expects Rynier to send his reports to him (Knox).

Rynier informs Knox he has been bequeathed some land in Europe and must terminate his five-year contract with Knox. Rynier needs Knox's help tying up a case against him in Boston regard "cloathing" and needs "one hundred dollars."
