At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One newspaper clipping sent by Omer H. Kelpe to Virginia Heidt Kelpe in a letter dated November 24, 1942. The clipping is an advertisement for the Sta-In Shirt. The shirt has a hidden draw string to help it stay neatly tucked in. Includes an advertisement for Coca-Cola Spotlight Bands playing in "War Camps and War Plants" on the rear of the page.
