At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One photograph of a woman circa 1920. The photograph is a portrait of a woman. Seems to be a proof as there are color notations on the rear of the photo. These notations read, "Hair Medium Brown, with Auburn Lights, Eyes - Blue, Complexion- Very Fair, One Enlargement, Dress Dark Brown Collar Bright Orange." GLC10047.02.539 is a colored enlargement of this photo.
