At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Thirteenth amendment resolution ending slavery, partially printed and signed by members of both houses of Congress who voted for the resolution. A "Congressional" copy NOT signed by President Lincoln, partially printed on parchment with manuscript additions. Signed by Hamlin, Colfax, Forney, McPherson, 37 senators, and 111 Congressmen.
