At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One undated photograph sent by Claude E. Brantley to Dorothy Brantley. Features the front end and nose art on a WWII Boeing F-BA. The plane is named Double Exposure and the art is a woman in a sexual position. There are four airmen posing with the art in a suggestive manner. A note on the rear of the images labels the plane type.
