At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One newspaper clipping to Congressman Carlos J. Moorhead dated January 9, 1974. Item is an editorial written by Morrie Ryskind from the Los Angeles Herald-Examiner entitled "Chip Off Old Block." Pertains to the IRS reexamining President Nixon's tax returns following his donation of his 1969 Presidential papers, and hinting that Nixon could be indicted for a felony.
