At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One newspaper clipping to Congressman Carlos J. Moorhead dated February 10, 1974. Item is a column written by Victor Lasky, printed in the Pasadena Star-News entitled "On Helpful Enemies." Makes reference to a lawsuit filed by Rep. Bella Abzug (D-NY) against President Nixon for illegally using taxpayer dollars to improve his personal properties in San Clemente and Key Biscane. Also mentions the White House tapes which were erased, and saying that the aides that are surrounding Leon Jaworski are biased against the President.
