At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One letter from Josephine Bradley to Congressman Carlos J. Moorhead dated February 8, 1974. Bradley supports the impeachment of President Nixon. Letter is attached to a newspaper clipping regarding the constitutional process (see GLC09613.02.3466.03). She writes, "As a resident of Glendale, I am perturbed that you were one of the four who cast a vote in opposition to the Judiciary Committee having unlimited power of subpoena for the impeachment investigation."
