At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One letter from Congressman Carlos J. Moorhead to M.C. Morris dated March 18, 1974. Defends his vote against subpoenaing Nixon. Acknowledges mention of the ACLU’s support to impeach Nixon, "As you know, the American Civil Liberties Union has taken unto themselves the active job of getting the President impeached, regardless of what the facts might be."
