At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One letter from Congressman Carlos J. Moorhead to Paul J. Yoder dated April 1, 1974. Moorhead defends his subpoena vote. States that the House Committee would not be ideal to subpoena, but that it is necessary to investigate. He believes that the President has made mistakes, but prefers to negotiate instead.
