One letter from Helen Coe to Congressman Carlos J. Moorhead dated October 24, 1973. Coe is against the impeachment of President Nixon and writes, "Dear Friend: Since I don't know all the proper language, I would like to address you as my friend. In the light of all the scandal that is being fed to us over the radio concerning those in government high places, may I express the thinking of some of us "back home"? It would seem that they are acting like a bunch of undisciplined children--selfish, jealous, playing party politics, instead of thinking of the best interests of the nation--and we wish they would grow up. As for Richard Nixon, I believe it was in the plan og God that he was elected president at this time. I don't approve of a lot of things--and there is a lot I don't understand--but for whatever he has done wrong, God will deal with him. It is written in the BOOK on which our nation was founded that "The king's heart (and our president's) is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water; He turneth it whithersoever He will." Proverbs 21:1. We at home have a responsibility to pray for all in authority (I Timothy 2:1:, 2) and some of us are doing so. God has given the remedy for our country and the mess we are in: If My people, which are called by My name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear frim heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." II Chron. 7:14. God help us to do it. Sincerely yours, Helen Coe."
