At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One newspaper clipping from Al Foxton and Mrs. Al Foxton to Congressman Carlos J. Moorhead dated January 14, 1974. The clipping is a form letter printed in newspapers with information filled in by the Foxtons who were against the impeachment of President Nixon. They wrote, "We voted for you, worked for your election. You are our representative, and we say support President Nixon."
