One issue of The Freeman printed in Indianapolis dated July 11, 1896. Contains news highlighting contributions of the Black communities in Indiana. Front page contains a portrait of Booker T. Washington who had just graduated from Harvard University. Provides new on local events, updates of local citizens, beauty advertisements, advertisements for schools that were not segregated, funeral of Harriet Beacher Stowe, and a column entitled, "Race Gleanings," which highlighted the contributions of different individuals and organizations in the south.
