At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Four pamphlets concerning communism. One pamphlet is an explanation of communism as it is in use in the Soviet Union entitled "Communism in Action A Documented Study and Analysis of Communism in Operation in the Soviet Union." the other three pamphlets concern proceedings of the Committee on Un-American Activities House of Representatives Eighty-Fourth Congress Second Session and contains testimonies of questioned citizens.
