At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One signed photograph of astronaut Sally Ride dated 1984. The photograph is an official portrait issued by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The photo has been signed on the left hand side. Features Sally Ride in front of an American flag, and model of a Challenger space shuttle. Her uniform features a Challenger 7, and a NASA patch. On the reverse side of the photograph is a copyright notice from NASA.
