At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One poster entitled "Strafer Beware!" printed by Autocar, dated 1941-1945. Poster features a scene of an Autocar half-track shooting down Nazi strafers. The poster refers to the half-tracks and says in part, "they are only one of the mobile units rolling out of Ardmore for our Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Forces.... Stand by for better trucks to come. Keep your pledge to the U.S. Truck Conservation Corps." The artwork used in the poster is signed by E. George Roland. It also has the title of the poster in pencil on the back.
