At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Addressed to "Dad + Bee." He left the hospital to go to the club, which was great for him. He asks his father if his office could take care of Bob's income tax report and lists his income from the army. "It would be swell if they'd handle it for me."

The letter is dated "Wednesday." "Letters in a Box," notes the letter was sent on March 1, 1944.
