Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Moe talks about who will have an easier time going home, an older or younger man. On one hand, the older man has a hard time because he will find it difficult to get back to his old life because he is simply too old to go back. The younger man has no idea how much he will have changed by the time he gets home.
