At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Moe attended a service where the chaplain said he wanted to set aside money for the Jewish Children's fund. He tells her not to worry about Jack's letter to Lil in which he tries to prepare her for the fact that he may not be home as soon as the war is over.
