At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Written at 10:00 PM at home. Sylvia is relieved to know Moe is shipping out and is following him on his journey in her mind's eye. Said one of the "girls " told her that her husband had been stationed at Fort Hamilton [Brooklyn] and she never knew it when he was there and never got to see him. So that their situation was better, really. She accepts that she will probably not see Moe because "of the ways of war."
