At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

A letter to Senator Bruce on the conditions of levees in two different towns; Floraville, and Bollevar. He is also requesting help in workers, and money to repair the levees. Tobin also asks the Senator for seeds. There is a small raised image in the upper left hand side of the page.
