At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Reprints the 24 October 1791 act of Congress entitled "An act establishing a mint, and regulating the coins of the United States." This act specified the coinage that would be provided by the newly established United States Mint and the salaries of each of the employees of the Mint.
