Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Worries about his bank's debt and existing loans, but feels that he can get by. Admits that the bank may soon be terminated since its charter is about to run out. Wishes for instructions on how to act in the face of potential doom. Suggests that in the case of termination, the State banks be used for "the winding up of our affairs."
