Written near the Chattahoochee River in Georgia. He has yet to received the package his family sent him. Mr. Wells is going home tomorrow. Asks for some things and suggests they can mail it to him or send them with Mr. Wells when he returns. He was paid last week and kept 20 dollars and sent home 118 dollars. Writes that the weather is getting rather cold. He is glad to hear that the family's fall work is getting along so well. Writes about some memories from home that happened during past winters. He expects that the government will give the soldiers 160 acres of land and a new log house. He thinks that a "rough" living makes him healthier and enjoys the country very much.

The copyright law of the United States (title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
