At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

He informs him his company will be carried down on the steamer and he will confer with the captain of the "Shawsheeu" and he will land on the North side of Broad Creek. The purpose to capture some of the Whitefords men who are reportedly prowling around the neighborhood.
