Small daily diary. Diary entries with almanac pages at the beginning and cash account pages at the end.
He describes the weather in most entries and gives tidbits about the progress of the war. He mentions captures and the taking of prisoners. Sometimes troop movements and fellow soldiers are mentioned. Many entries end with the statement: "No particular news." He tells of the orders he receives in several entries. He mentions McClellan a few times. The last entry, dated December 31st, 1862 says he "leaves with regrets," after he is ordered to leave Sharpesburg and go to Washington.
