At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Writes she received Ogden's letter and is glad to hear that her husband has improved in health. In his last letter, he wrote that he would be rejoining his battery. Says she wants to discourage him from doing so because she does not think it wise considering his weak back. Asks that Mrs. Ogden accept her many thanks for her kindness and care. State is not listed, but was likely written from Greenwich, New York.
