Cabinet card photograph by O. S. Goff. View of Fort taken from adjacent hill. Inscription on verso: "Fort Lincoln. Dakota Territory. It was from Fort Abraham Lincoln on May 17, 1876 that the fateful Yellowstone Expedition under command of General Alfred H. Terry, the Department Commander, marched out to the music of "Garry Owen" played by the band of the 7th Cavalry. Gen. Terry's headquarters were at that time at St. Paul, Minn."
