Signed by Graham on the dedication page; dedicated to Graham's sister Shirley Graham Du Bois, an African American author, playwright, composer, and wife of sociologist and civil rights leader W. E. B. Du Bois. Contains a foreword by W. E. B. Du Bois, who states "These modern bits of poetry rescued from passing oblivion remind us of what Africa has thought and done in the long past .. Africa gave the toil that made America and underlay the modern era." Contents include poetry retelling the stories of African figures, many of whom were Biblical. Written in dialect.
