At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Part of an unknown newspaper. The collateral files suggests that it might be from Alexandria, Louisiana. If that is true, then this section is probably from the "Louisiana Democrat." Date of creation estimated from the dates of the printed letters on the sheet. Includes a reprint of "The Red River Raid" from the "New York Herald," which disparages General Nathaniel Bank's attack on Shreveport, Louisiana. Also Mock letters from "Asa Klubs," poking fun at Banks.
