At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

"Growth in Grace," an essay spanning multiple issues, describes the influence and progress of grace. An article about "Foreign Missions" requests funds. A letter from Fort Johnston, James Island, South Carolina requests more copies of hte paper. "Apparent Discrepancies in the Scriptures" are listed. Epistles on page 2 examine "Christ and Mammon," the "Spiritual Empire," "The Prayer of the Extortioner," and "Human Progress."
