"Beautiful Passages" examines different excerpts from works of literature about change, including day to night, life to death, and summer to fall. Letters to the editor make suggestions about how to distribute the paper to soldiers. A woman writes an epistle titled "Prayer." A letter is printed from the "Educational Association of the Confederate States." "Secular News" includes Union forces at Vicksburg; skirmish between General Robert E. Lee and the Union army, resulting in Union losses; General Forrest repulsing Union forces at Danville, amongst other news.
