The "Latest News" column provides war updates and often includes information from Europe. Reports of battles and troops describe events and local people. Several issues contain proclamations from the North Carolina governor Z.B. Vance. Many issues list the wounded and dead. The back page lists school committeemen, census figures, and rates of postage, as well as listings of congressional seats and the North Carolina state census by county. Ads often request workers for hire (both black and white). Some issues have poetry.
