At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

"Effects of the Blockade" reports that blockading the South actually helped in the "development of domestic industry and diversifying [their] pursuits." An article entitled "Butler Sequestering Property in Western Louisiana" refers to events in the "District of Lafourche". Includes accounts of troop movements and battle reports, advertisements, and local news.
