At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Suggests nominating General John White Geary, Union Civil War hero and Governor of Pennsylvania, for President. Cameron states he does not wish to run for President himself, but seems to desire some influence over the man who is in office. Also expects the Senate to be recalled soon by President Andrew Johnson.
