At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Informs that the letter will be delivered by D.S. Miller Jr., Gould's broker, who was appointed treasurer of New York Slate Co. Indicates that reports should now be sent to Miller instead of himself. States Miller is going to look after the shipments of slate. Asks Morgan to provide assistance in getting [railroad] cars.
