Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Same image as GLC05235.13.01. Main St. branches off in two directions. One branch passes the "American House" and the other branch passes in front of a hardware store. A trolley line runs in the center of the street in front of the hardware store. People with horses and wagons are on the triangular piece of land created by the merging of the roads.
