Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Landram is facing left and almost has his back to the table beside him. His left arm rests on the table. He holds his hat with the infantry horn insignia on it in his lap with his right hand. Inscription on verso: "Gen. W.J. Landram." The image has been touched-up [painted].
