Inscription on verso: "Hon. Preston Brooks" Additional inscription on verso: "(attacked Sumner)." There is a piece of mounting tape still attached to the upper left corner. The image has been painted. From Brady Archives, mounted on cabinet card mounts just before or during early 1862.
