Gardner photograph. Inscription on verso: "XXIV" "338." It also identifies the location as "Petersbrug," however in the Photogrpahic History of the Civil War, Vol 2, p. 618, the scene is identified as Brandy Station. Evidence suggests Brandy Station is the correct location. Camp of A-frame tents, some with wooden doors and brick chimneys. Construction of tents suggests a winter camp. Camp is located in a clearing surrounded by trees. Trees in the foreground of the photograph have been cut down. Unidentified flag bearing three vertical bars [blue, white and red] with a single star in the bar closest to the staff flies in the center of the image among the tents. Lone soldier stands near tent in the background of the photograph. Border of branches marks edge of camp.
