A print of a portrait of Assistant Adjutant-General Colonel DeGarmo Jones, 3/4 length sitting, wearing epaulettes and holding sword. Jones, born ca. 1833-1835 Wayne, MI, was the son of DeGarmo Jones, Mayor of Detroit in 1839 as well as a businessman and industrialist. Grave and genology records record Jones the younger dying in the summer of 1864. Jones had served as Assistant Adjutant-General of Michigan (likely the militia or reserve army). Biographical information regarding rank as colonel seems accurate as portrait shows single breasted officer's uniform with saber, field and general staff wore double-breasted coats. Most likely photograph taken earlier in the the war as epaulets were replaced by shoulder straps as the war went on. On reverse side of photo reads: "Adj. DeGamo Jones of Mich. Asst. Adj. Gen. during war. State service."
