General Tyler, commander of the District of Delaware, writes to Piatt, Chief of Staff, Middle Department. Withdraws his suggestion that the 5th Regiment, Maryland Volunteers should concentrate at Fort Donelson, due to the lack of quarters at the fort for additional troops. Relates that Captain Clayton's cavalry company will patrol the state for deserters. Recommends that a company of invalids should be sent to guard the hospital and public stores in Wilmington. Advises sending the 5th Regiment, Maryland Volunteers, "at least as far south as North Carolina." One black and white bust engraving of Tyler included.
