At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Title continues: "Published by order of the General Committee of the City Banks." The convention had been called to respond to the Panic of 1837, and the report argues for the return to specie payments. The General Committee was led by President of the National Bank of New York Albert Gallatin. Printed in New York City by A. De Camp & Co. With original printed wrappers, stab-stitched as issued.
