Written at camp near Stephenson, Alabama. Thanks her for continuing to write to him while he is at war. Writes that Lieutenant Heuburt [?] returned but he has yet to see him. He has still not received some of her letters and is disappointed. He is sorry that she has so much to do and tells her not to worry about making pants for him. Hopes that Low has sent his boots. Captain Legne [?] has returned with 20 men from the regiment but none from the company. Writes about a few of the soldiers who came back with the captain that he knows. He has sent her father a paper from Nashville, Tennessee before they left camp at Winchester, Tennessee. Asks for some stamps. Explains where and how he picked some roses and other flowers for her. Their camp is about four miles from the Alabama state line. He has received a letter from his brother Smith who is very busy with haying and harvesting on his farm. Writes that he is worried about her traveling alone.

The copyright law of the United States (title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
