At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Robert Cambridge writes that although the rainy weather has impeded the blast of Robert, Jr.'s furnace, it will probably prove beneficial in the long run. He also discusses the market value of provisions, and advises Robert, Jr. to send his flour to New York where it will sell at a good price. Docketed on address leaf.
